Update: Unified Command activates Heavy Weather Plan

BRUNSWICK, Ga - Unified Command has activated its Heavy Weather Plan in advance of approaching Hurricane Eta. The VB10000 has paused cutting operations and is being secured inside the Environmental Protection Barrier. The wreck remains stable and environmental impacts will continue to be monitored by response personnel. Sections of floating boom which are vulnerable to severe weather are being removed. All personnel will remain inside their COVID-19 bubble and assets will remain in the area to resume operations as soon as it is safe to do so.

The 150-yard safety zone around the Environmental Protection Barrier is increased to 200 yards for recreational vessels. The UC advises mariners to please steer clear of the perimeter. Any unauthorized usage of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) around the wreck site is prohibited. Responders will report any sightings of drones and drone operators to local authorities.

The St. Simons Sound Incident Unified Command is the official source of information for the motor vessel Golden Ray response operations.
